Michelangelo Pistoletto is one of Arte Povera’s most significant protagonists, and his iconic Mirror Paintings earned him rapid and lasting international recognition, encapsulating his dual interest in conceptualism and figurative representation. While his subjects are presented on the threshold of another realm, the works come alive when the onlooker stands before them and involuntarily becomes a protagonist of the piece.
This book seeks to evaluate his Mirror Paintings in both a contemporary context and as representative of one of the central tenets of Pistoletto’s artistic project since creating the first Mirror Painting in 1962.
